特集が組まれています（P68～）。 マイルスのもとを離れたジョー・ザヴィヌル（key）と、ウェイン・ショーター（ts）、そしてミロスラフ・ヴィトウス（b）の3人により1971結成されたウェザー・リポート。

ベーシスト、ドラマー、パーカッショニストのメンバー・チェンジを繰り返しながら、1986年に解散するまで常にジャズ・シーンを牽引してきました。

2011年はウェザーリポート結成40周年。これを記念した未発表作品が怒涛のリリース・ラッシュを迎えています。


1971年の結成当時、難解と思われがちだった演奏をグルーヴ路線に転換を図った時期のリズム陣、アルフォンソ・ジョンソン（b）、アレックス・アクーニャ（per）、チェスター・トンプソン（ds）が在籍した1975年のベルリン公演。

ジャコとピーター・アースキン（ds）が加入して人気が最高潮に達した1978年、ライブ放送番組「ロック・パラスト」のために行われたオッフェンバッハのステージ。

ジャコとピーターの脱退を受けて加入した、ヴィクター・ベイリー（b）、オマー・ハキム（ds）、ホセ・ロッシー（per）が在籍した「ロックララスト」のための1983年のケルン公演。

輸入盤は各ステージを単発で発売されていますが、日本ではこれら一連のタイトルを5CD（＋1DVD）作品と、3DVD作品としてリパッケージ。《スカーレット・ウーマン》や《バディア～ブギ・ウギ・ワルツ》などは2つのステージで演奏されており、ベース、ドラム、パーカッションのメンバーがが変わることでウェザー・リポートの音楽も劇的に変化していることがお分かりいただけるのも1パッケージならではのメリットといえるでしょう。
※ 1975年と1983年のライブは国内盤では初登場となります。

この国内盤ボックスセットには元アドリブ編集長松下佳男氏が書き下ろした特製ライナーが付属しています。
